Clovis Didier was born in 1958 in the district of Neuilly-sur-Seine in the west of Paris. Didier was a student of Jean-Leon Gérôme, whose academic style of painting and subject matter remained a strong influence in Didier’s work throughout his career.

Didier started exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1880. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, and became a member of the group in 1899. He specialised in scenes of domestic bourgeois life, such as his painting of Young Women.
