Born in Martigues in 1895, Malfroy studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and regularly exhibited at the Salons des Artistes Francais et des Independants.

His father, Charles Malfroy was also an accomplished artist specialising in painting views of Mediterranean harbours. Henri took over his father’s studio in Martigues and was equally inspired by the picturesque harbours along the Cote d’Azur.   He created impressionistic, romantic maritime scenes through his breezy and spontaneous brushwork, underpinned by his technical skills.   By way of contrast, Paris street scenes also feature prominently among his work.
