EDWARD SEAGO: NOTABLE SALES
Edward Seago occupies a distinct place in the annals of British art history, producing works of an unparalleled colouristic intelligence the subtleties of which reward intense retrospection on the part of the viewer. Our London gallery has acquired and sold many notable paintings by Edward Seago. We are always looking to acquire and buy more artworks by this artist.
Born in Norwich, Edward Seago would overcome chronic health issues as a child to develop a self-taught virtuoso talent, encouraged by correspondence with Sir Alfred Munnings and Betram Priestman. While he would often sail to France to hone his impressionistic technique and paint European subjects, Seago’s main source of inspiration always remained the landscapes of East Anglia.
Despite his personal privacy, he nonetheless became one of the royal family’s favourite painters and has come to be seen as one of Britain’s most celebrated twentieth-century painters. Seago’s impressionistic technique, held together by a nuanced understanding of colour and tone, created such complexity of light and space that his exhibitions often sold out within an hour of opening.
