Clive McCartney is a contemporary British artist born in 1960 and one of Britain foremost figurative painter. He received his art education at the Central School of Art and Design in London and completed his education with ten years of travel around the world.
Clive McCartney’s choice of subject-matter covers a wide range of cities and countries, from cafes in Venice or bistros in Paris to the skyline of New York, and even more distant and exotic venues. His paintings are about the contrast of light and darkness and the gradation of tone. In his beautiful panoramas, McCartney tries to reveal the underlying structure of the places he paints. His powerful light guides the eye through his pictures, drawing a link between his figurative work and his more abstract sensibility.
