KENNETH WEBB | Meandering

Meandering by Kenneth Webb explores the lyrical rhythm of water through bold colour and compositional flow. A winding river, reflecting sky and foliage, guides the eye through dappled patches of yellow and green. Part of Webb’s Lyrical Series, the painting unites memory and landscape, suggestive of the reflective pools of Connemara and the artist’s deep engagement with nature’s shifting forms and light. A study in movement and tranquility, it encapsulates Webb’s painterly melody.
At first glance, this appears as a simple landscape, but look closer to see a study of varying perspective and planes, emphasising the shifts in the dimensions of space and time. Thus, Meandering goes beyond twisting channels, between blanket weed on an expansive pool, and instead reflects the human mind that slips between thoughts and ideas and memories, and shifts from past and future and present-as indeed Kenneth, and all of us, has done through this huge world change.
Kenneth Webb is one of Ireland’s leading painters. Brought up in post-war Britain, from a young age Kenneth was inspired by the Gloucestershire countryside where he grew up. In 1974 Kenneth purchased the Ballinaboy Studio in Connemara on the west coast of Ireland, and this wonderful place has offered a multitude of inspiration to Kenneth for over forty years. Kenneth’s magnificent ethereal landscapes of Connemara, his colourful and textured paintings of poppies and his shimmering visions of his favoured waterlily pool are instantly recognisable for their vibrancy and gestural brushstrokes. So unique and striking are his paintings that over the past decade with our gallery, his work has amassed an international following culminating with the seminal exhibition Kenneth Webb at 90. Despite his 91 years, Kenneth is as prolific as ever and his work continues to explore creative boundaries.
