Niek van der Plas (born 1954) was raised in Katwijk aan Zee, the eldest of four siblings. His hometown, a historic fishing village known for its white church, coastal scenery, and rolling dunes, serves as a frequent subject in his artwork. Encouraged by his father, he developed a passion for drawing from an early age. In 1966, he earned a nomination to study at the Famous Artist School in the United States.
Renowned for his vibrant use of color, Van der Plas favors warm tones that give his paintings a distinctive, French-inspired atmosphere.
