  • Victor-Joseph Chavet (1822–1906) was a distinguished 19th-century French painter, renowned for his finely rendered genre scenes, landscapes and figure compositions. Born in Pourcieux on July 21, 1822 and passing in Le Creusot on July 16, 1906, Chavet trained with Pierre Révoil in Lyon and Camille Roqueplan in Paris.

    A frequent exhibitor at the Paris Salon, he received medals in 1853, 1855, 1857, 1859 and was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1859. His notable works include "Le Louvre de Napoléon III" (1857), contributions to the Galerie d’Apollon tapestry designs at the Louvre and a watercolor album gifted by Napoleon III to Queen Victoria.
