A wonderfully informal picture of a working woman hiding from the heat of the sun as she refreshes in the shade, picked out by the ochre of her shawl and her casually crossed ankles.
- Alexandre Franois Bonnardel was a member of the Lyon school and is admired for his impressionist en plein air scenes and portraits of elegant female sitters. Born in Pajay in southeastern France, Bonnardel enrolled at the National School of Fine Art in Lyon and remained in the city for the rest of his career. From 1900 to 1918 Bonnardel was a professor of the life model class at the National School of Fine Art in Lyon.
