ARTIST

FRANZ XAVIER WOLFLE

Franz Xavier was born in 1887 at Kaufneuern in Germany where he recieved his early education. He became a painter of porcelain at the famous Royal Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory, and it was here that his great talent was first recognised. He later studied in Munich, but in 1911, he emigrated to England and remained in London until 1919. On his return to Munich, he was influenced and guided by Professor Hengeler and Professor Herterich at the Munich Academy. From this time onwards he exhibited at virtually every important exhibition and achieved great success. The name Wolfle is now instantly associated with detailed portraits and character studies of the highest quality, which were his speciality. Franz Xavier died in 1972 and was succeeded by one daughter, Ingeborge Wolfle who painted portraits in a similar style to her father.
