ARTIST

GABRIEL DESCHAMPS

Deshamp was born in 1919 and studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris and later in Narbonne. He regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon and from 1939 he was appointed State Art Professor and a member of the Paris Salon d’Autumn. Deshamp spent most of his working life in Provence and soon became known for his evocative landscapes of the area, painting idyllic village scenes basking in the Mediterranean sunshine. He was also drawn to vibrant harbour scenes of the Cote d’Azur and his beautiful paintings are full of brightly coloured boats that jostle for space on the glittering water. Deschamps exhibited widely in Paris, Algiers, Oran and Casablanca, and his work is represented in important private collections in Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil, USA and Argentina.
