ARTIST
GUSTAV ADOLF FRIEDRICH
Born in Dresden 23rd December 1824, soon after the Napoleonic wars, Gustav Adolf Friedrich was a figurative and animal painter. He studied under his father, the brilliant Caspar David Friedrich who was considered to be the most important landscape painter of the German Romantic movement (1774-1840).
He then went on to study at the Dresden Academy and exhibited in Dresden 1856.
Most of his subjects are based around his passion which was for horses, and he found inspiration in the regular horse fairs and markets around his home towns. He was very successful during his lifetime and his works are highly sought after. He continued painting until his death in 1889.
