SIMON GARDEN

Simon Garden is a celebrated British artist whose distinctive style blends rich colour, texture, and dreamlike compositions. After graduating with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Exeter School of Art and Design in 1982, he established himself as a highly regarded painter, exhibiting widely in both solo and group shows. His work has been featured in major exhibitions, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and The Hunting Prize. In recognition of his contribution to the arts, he was elected as a Royal West of England Academician in 2002. Garden’s paintings are known for their ability to transport viewers into enchanting, otherworldly scenes. Stripping landscapes and figures down to their purest forms, he creates compositions that feel both familiar and surreal. His use of bold colour and layered textures adds depth to his work, while elements of mystery—such as winding paths that fade into the horizon or structures without clear entryways—invite personal interpretation. Beneath their playful and poetic qualities, his paintings explore deeper themes of life’s challenges, transitions, and possibilities. With a career spanning decades, Garden has exhibited in prestigious galleries across the UK, and his work is held in private collections worldwide, including in the USA, Netherlands, Australia, and Japan. We are delighted to showcase his evocative and thought-provoking pieces at Gladwell & Patterson.
