CLAUDE MONET: NOTABLE SALES
Claude Monet was the leading French Impressionist landscape painter. Our London gallery has acquired and sold many notable paintings by Claude Monet. We are always looking to acquire and buy more artworks by this artist.
Born in Le Havre, Claude Monet showed a profound artistic ability from a young age and was encouraged by Eugène Boudin, another local artist, to paint outdoors. This approach enabled a more direct and expressive impression on the canvas and Monet’s desire to move to Paris and become a painter was formed.
Having been rejected from the Salon, Monet and his circle of young artistic friends established an alternative exhibition to the academic confines of the Salon. This first exhibition opened in 1874 and the Impressionist Movement was born – the name derived from the title of one of Monet’s paintings.
Monet is renowned for his series paintings of the 1890s and his visions of the waterlily pond at Giverny, which the artist built and cultivated after moving there in 1883. Monet’s waterlily paintings are the pinnacle of the artists’ oeuvre and of the Impressionist movement.
