This season, we bring Auguste Bouvard to the forefront, placing his luminous Venetian views at the heart of  Gladwell’s Corner, Stamford. Rooted in the traditions of the Grand Tour, Bouvard’s paintings offer a vision of Venice shaped by sunlit canals, softly weathered façades and reflections to convey the city as it might have been encountered by the nineteenth-century traveller. Rendered through a free, impressionistic handling and a warm, radiant palette, these works speak to the enduring allure of Venice as a place of arrival and inspiration.
