ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Welcome back! In celebration of the new season that is upon us we are delighted to invite you to our upcoming exhibition 'Uncorked - A Celebration of Harvest'. Open from Monday 28th September to Friday 23rd October in our London gallery.
The harvest season and the abundance of fresh produce at this time of year has inspired artists throughout the history of art, from harvest landscapes swathed in golden autumnal light to sumptuous still lifes bursting with colour and the promise of delight.
Among the highlights of the exhibition is a selection of work by American artist Paul S. Brown. Much of Paul’s work is deeply inspired by the flavours of produce that make their way onto his kitchen table and is often a celebration of the journey of farm and field to larder, cellar and kitchen.
All the charm of pastoral France is captured in the delicate still lifes of Robert Chailloux, his beautiful rustic fruits and floral subjects were often taken directly from his gardens or carefully selected from the local market. Since his move to the south of France, Stewart Lees has followed in Chailloux’s footsteps, capturing local produce and the herbs from his garden under his delicate brush, bathed in warm French light.
Other highlights include a beautiful collection of still lifes by the late Belgian master Willem Dolphyn. Willem’s sheer technical virtuosity in the handling of light and texture resonates from within each of his highly personal paintings. Each composition was meticulously planned, combining local produce with the artists fascinating collection of treasures, fabrics, glassware and ceramics which spanned the centuries, gleaming and glinting in the Northern light of Willem’s Antwerp studio.
We hope that you enjoy this collection and we look forward to welcoming you to the gallery.
