Postcard from Rutland

Gladwells Rutland is delighted to support Nevill Holt Opera, as it begins this year’s annual summer season in its RIBA Award-winning theatre. La Boheme and The Barber of Seville will be performed over the next few weeks in its historic stately home setting alongside a festival of jazz, orchestras and more. We are very lucky to have a world-class opera on our doorstep and although less than 10 years old, this ambitious and creative organisation is quickly taking its place next to Glyndebourne and Garsington. Nevill Holt creates outstanding opera in the East Midlands whilst developing some of the most talented opera singers in the industry early in their careers. It is also able to enrich the lives of young people locally by supporting them through the David Ross Education Trust and delivering extensive education and community programmes.

The stable block which houses the remarkable Nevill Holt opera theatre will this year also hold a unique pop up gallery by Gladwells Rutland for operagoers to enjoy. The paintings on display will reflect many of the subject matters conjured up by composers and musicians over the centuries. We will be hanging artists such as Edouard Cortes who captured the vitality and atmosphere of Paris in the early 20th century and who often depicted the Paris Opera House, along side contemporary artists such Aris Raissis whose figurative paintings with evocative characters such as ‘The Gypsy Girl’ could be straight from the cast of an “opera buffa” by Rossini.

Tickets can be found at https://www.nevillholtopera.co.uk/whats-on, and we very much hope to see you there.
