"I looked sideways and there was this incredible morning light coming through with a bit of a haze and I knew it needed painting," Potter recalls, describing how Low Spring Sun first began while photographing for a commission. The finished painting conveys this sense of immediacy with cooler light filtering through the trees, stretching long shadows across the ground and signalling renewal in the air.
