Moody Moorlands depicts a small group of partridges moving through tall, damp grasses beneath a broad, overcast sky. The birds advance with measured steps, their bodies angled slightly apart yet sharing a common direction. The sky is worked in thin, layered greys, creating a low ceiling of light that presses down on the scene. Moody Moorlands reflects Norridge's close observation of upland landscapes and ground-dwelling birds. Rather than dramatic movement, the emphasis lies on atmosphere, with careful attention given to plumage, weight and balance.
