Falconer is praised for his romantic and highly atmospheric landscapes. His scenes are mostly of Europe and Britain, and most notably depict the Lake District and the lochs and mountains of Scotland. His paintings of the Scottish Highlands, known for some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth, are Falconer’s most highly celebrated and collected of his oeuvre. Rocky outcrops, lush forests, and expanses of still water combine into an Arcadian vista that has captured the imagination of both artists and the wider public for over two centuries.

  • Douglas Falconer was born in 1913. Falconer initially trained as a furniture designer, gaining several important commissions, including the re-making of the bomb damaged rostrum for the auction house Christie’s.
