A detailed interior still life and luminous seascape defines Marcel Dyf’s Vue sur la Côte, Fenêtre Bleue. Painted with the artist’s hallmark elegance, the composition frames a Mediterranean shoreline through the shutters of a balcony, where sailboats drift in calm waters and figures gather on the beach. A vase of roses in the foreground introduces Dyf’s gift for floral painting, balancing intimacy with expansiveness. The work exemplifies Dyf’s Impressionist lineage - fresh colour, fluid brushwork and a serene celebration of light.

  • Entirely self-taught, Marcel Dyf is considered to be one of the last of the true Impressionist artists. Dyf began his career as an engineer but at the age of twenty-three, against the wishes of his family, he set up a studio in Arles in the South of France. His career flourished and his peaceful landscapes of the surrounding countryside of Provence attracted a great many collectors and wealthy patrons.

Influenced and inspired by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists, in particular Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Dyf excelled in his ability to capture the light and atmosphere of his subjects.

Dyf exhibited at the major Salons in Paris throughout his career and achieved a great many awards for his vibrant Impressionistic paintings. Dyf’s fame spread beyond continental Europe to the United States and his work can be found in many important museums and private collections.
