Paul Czainski’s A Snip of the Price reimagines Piet Mondrian’s rigorous geometric abstraction through a distinctly British wit and conceptual playfulness. The composition borrows Mondrian’s iconic grid of red, yellow, blue, grey and white as symbols of the De Stijl pursuit of purity and balance, yet Czainski subverts their austerity by introducing the illusion of material imperfection: folds, stitching and a pair of scissors suspended by string.
