Serge Mendjisky’s Les Bords de Marne glows with vibrant pointillist strokes that fuse into a luminous sunset over the river. His rhythmic dabs of pure colour create shimmering reflections and a sense of movement in trees, water and sky. Mendjisky’s bold palette and dynamic surface bring the Marne’s gentle landscape to life with radiant, modern energy.

  • Serge Mendjisky was a French painter celebrated for his vibrant, light-filled landscapes and cityscapes, working in a distinctive post-Impressionist and pointillist vein. Born in Paris, he was the son of the sculptor Ossip Zadkine, an artistic lineage that profoundly shaped his sensitivity to form, structure and rhythm. Mendjisky studied architecture before turning fully to painting, a background that informed his strong compositional balance and spatial clarity.

Throughout his career, Mendjisky explored France’s rivers, countryside and urban vistas, including the Marne, Paris and Mediterranean scenes. His work is characterised by rhythmic dabs of pure colour, building luminous surfaces that shimmer with movement and atmosphere. By allowing colours to interact optically rather than blending them fully on the palette, he achieved a vibrant, contemporary reimagining of Neo-Impressionist techniques.
