KENNETH WEBB | Shangri La
Oil on Canvas
40" x 18" / 102 x 46 cms
Signed Webb (lower left)
Shangri La is an original waterscape painting by contemporary artist, Kenneth Webb. The vivid pink sky is certainly the centerpiece of this painting. Webb's use of layering adds a wonderful sense of depth and perspective to the piece.
The scene depicts a lake with waterlilies floating on the surface, barley making a first impression due to the setting sun. We can just see the sun disappearing for the day in the distance, creating a beam of light across the calm surface of the lake.
Kenneth Webb is one of Irelands leading painters. Brought up in post-war Britain, from a young age Kenneth was inspired by the Gloucestershire countryside where he grew up.
In 1974 Kenneth purchased the Ballinaboy Studio in Connemara on the west coast of Ireland, and this wonderful place has offered a multitude of inspiration to Kenneth for over forty years. Kenneths magnificent ethereal landscapes of Connemara, his colourful and textured paintings of poppies and his shimmering visions of his favoured waterlily pool are instantly recognisable for their vibrancy and gestural brushstrokes.
So unique and striking are his paintings that over the past decade with our gallery, his work has amassed an international following culminating with the seminal exhibition Kenneth Webb at 90.
Despite his 96 years, Kenneth is as prolific as ever and his work continues to explore creative boundaries.
