The warm palette and soft brushwork evoke a sense of quiet contemplation and the refined elegance of the period. A captivating glimpse into the creative world of a bygone era.

  • The Spanish School of Art refers to the distinctive tradition of painting and sculpture that developed on the Iberian Peninsula from the late Middle Ages through to the modern era. Rooted in Catholic devotion, Spanish art was shaped by the cultural exchanges of the Reconquista, the patronage of the Habsburg and Bourbon courts, as well as the influence of Italy and Flanders. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries (the Siglo de Oro) Spain produced some of the most important artists in Europe. El Greco, with his elongated figures and mystical intensity, brought a fusion of Byzantine and Venetian traditions. Diego Velázquez, court painter to Philip IV, elevated portraiture with unprecedented realism and psychological depth. Francisco de Zurbarán and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo captured religious subjects with solemn dignity and tender humanity, while José de Ribera introduced a dramatic naturalism influenced by Caravaggio.
