Pierre Grisot’s Femme devant la Fontaine de la Concorde embodies the elegance of Parisian life. Painted with fresh, fluid brushwork, the composition depicts a fashionable young woman before the famed fountain at Place de la Concorde. Grisot, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, became renowned for his portraits of chic Parisiennes, capturing style, charm and the timeless spirit of mid-century France

  • Grisot was born in 1911 in Paris. He was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and exhibited frequently in Paris, in particular at the Salon des Independants and with the group of The Paris School, showing together with the contemporary artists Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy and Villon. He produced an engaging body of work that portrays a colourful and lighthearted world of young dancing girls, nude models, coquettes and ladies of leisure. Grisots favoured theme is the sharply dressed, self-assured young woman, who he portrays in bright colour with pixie-like facial features. His scenes are playful and sensual, and invariably raise a question from the viewer about what happens next.
