Robin’s river view crowned by a distant castle reflects his fascination with historic architecture embedded in landscape. Drawing inspiration from northern France, he builds form through layered paint and restrained colour. His technique allows reflections to echo solid shapes, creating a sense of permanence softened by atmosphere and the gentle movement of water.
Recognised as one of the best Post-Impressionist artists, Robin’s skill and complete command of his palette set him aside from his contemporaries. Following the ‘en plein air’ practice of the Impressionist masters, in a few swift brushstrokes Robin brought life to the trees and rivers of the French countryside.
