Maisie presents a frontal view of a Highland cow’s head, filling the picture plane against a softly graduated, neutral ground. The animal is shown at close range, with the broad muzzle centred and the eyes set wide beneath a heavy fall of hair that obscures the forehead. Dolman renders the coat using finely layered paint, with individual strands articulated through controlled variations of tone in warm ochres, pale creams and muted browns. The surface is smooth and evenly worked, with transitions handled through gradual modulation rather than line.

  • Despite working as an accountant for many years, Dolman has recently returned to his childhood passion for painting.

From the Cows of the Peak District, to Big Cats, Dolman finds inspiration from the natural world around him, in Britain and on his travels.

Dolman has built a reputation for being a highly detailed realist artist, including as a runner up in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.

He has also been awarded with honors at the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Exhibition.
