The Flood by Kenneth Webb
Oil on Canvas, 30" x 40" / 76cms x 102cms
The primordial landscape of the West of Ireland, dominated by vast peat bogs between bare mountains and cragged coast, intimidates many. Webb loves this rawness and it saturates his painting. Even where humans dare to control and carve into the land, cutting away the peat resources, the land fights back. In this painting, old peat cuts have become recently flooded with rising water, and Webb has captured the apocalyptic undertones of the bog reclaiming its territory.
