The Flood by Kenneth Webb
Oil on Canvas; 30" x 40" / 76cms x 102cms
The primordial landscape of the West of Ireland; dominated by vast peat bogs between bare mountains and cragged coast; intimidates many. Webb loves this rawness and it saturates his painting. Even where humans dare to control and carve into the land; cutting away the peat resources; the land fights back. In this painting; old peat cuts have become recently flooded with rising water; and Webb has captured the apocalyptic undertones of the bog reclaiming its territory.
