JOE HARGAN | The Training Room
Oil on Canvas
71 x 71 cms / 28 x 28 inches
Signed Hargan (lower left)
A carefully arranged interior scene showing a woman poised on stacked books before a large framed view of a European square, while a black dog stands alert on a chequered floor below. A mantel to the left holds small objects including a glass of wine and decorative items, balanced by architectural detailing and a doorway to the right. Soft, controlled brushwork and a restrained palette of pale pinks, greens and creams create a composed atmosphere, with precise drawing and subtle tonal shifts guiding the eye through this quietly staged, narrative composition.
Joe Hargan was born in Glasgow, 1952. He studied drawing and painting at the Glasgow School of Art from 1970-74 under Danny Ferguson, James Robertson, and David Donaldson.
